Galbi - Variety of Grilled Meat



Korean recipes? Why you can't go past korean food - Galbi also as Kalbi is a variety of grilled dishes that are made of marinated beef or pork short ribs in a ganjang based sauce.

The ganjang sauce is made with soy sauce, garlic and sugar but there are many different versions. For instance, some sauces are made with sesame seed oil, rice wine, hot pepper paste, fruit juice, lemon or lime soda and honey.

This dish is typically served with lettuce which is used to wrap the meat with and is then dipped into the sauce (ssamjang). It is a popular picnic food in South Korea. You can also find recipes for Kalbitang, which is a clear soup containing pieces of the grilled meat for protein. DakKalbi is a dish made with chicken drumsticks instead of beef. It is seasoned with Gochujang based sauce.



How to Make Galbi ...

Ingredients:

  • 16 ribs (beef or pork)
  • 1 Cup of Soy Sauce
  • 3/4 Cup of Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup of Water
  • 1 Asian Pear (Chopped)
  • 1 Onion (Chopped)
  • 2tbs Minced Garlic
  • 4tbs Sesame Oil
  • 1tbs Ground Peppery
  • 1tbs Juice of Ginger

Instructions :

  • Rinse, and clean meat. Soak in water for 1 hour, and drain water
  • In a food Processor, add chopped onion, and Asian pear. Finely puree. Pour mixture into a large bowl, and remaining ingredients and mix well
  • Marinate beef for 8-10 hours, overnight is preferred. The short rib cooks rather quickly, usually within 2-3 minutes
  • Heat grill and grill short ribs
